Carrots are very easy to grow, and you can do it, too!
You’ll need to make sure that your soil is very loose and not compacted — carrots won’t grow well in hard, dense soil. The best way to achieve this is to:
1) Double-till your garden plot, or
2) Plant carrot seeds in raised beds.
Either way, adding composted material or manure will help with the consistency of the dirt.
When your garden space is ready, plant seedlings in rows, with about 6 carrot seeds and a few radish seeds per square inch. Planting in rows makes weeding much easier than widely broadcasting the tiny seeds, and the radish leaves will mark the rows for you much sooner than the actual carrot leaves will.
Have patience and plan on waiting about 70-80 days for carrots to be ready to harvest.
For continual crops, re-sow more seeds about 2-3 weeks after sowing previous crop.
In zones 8 and warmer, carrots can be included in winter gardens, as well.
Happy planting!
