magnolia treeHistorically, magnolia trees are favorites in this southern climate that we call home, and definitely for a good reason!

Magnolia (grandiflora) trees are very tough and hardy in the high temps of the summer, and they are also evergreen, which makes them beautiful in the cold seasons, too.  You can expect glossy green leaves all year long, with creamy white blossoms poking through in spring or early summer.

When planting, choose a well-drained, slightly acidic place away from constant foot traffic that may damage the magnolia’s shallow, fleshy roots.  A magnolia grandiflora may grow as wide as 40 feet, so be sure that it is placed in a spacious environment with plenty of room to spread out.

Like many other plants that we recommend, magnolias do come in various cultivars, so we encourage you to explore your local nursery to find the perfect tree for your home.
