Gardening gives you the ability to (pretty much) use your imagination any way you want to, with any combos and any plants that strike your fancy, all to create a look that you love. But how do you decide what scheme to use? And what plants play well together and look great at the same time?
One technique for creating contrast is to use to same plant in different colors or varieties. The similar foliage and bloom shapes work together to establish continuity and flow throughout the garden, while the assortment of colors tend to break up the space to add visual interest.
Try mixing light green “Great Expectations” hostas with darker green “Patriot” hostas around landscape borders and beds for depth of color.
If you desire more bloom than foliage, consider mixing hot-pink “Radrazz” Knock-Out rosebushes, with the more subtle yellow “Sunny” Knock-Out rose. The combos are endless, so choose a plant that you love, and buy up a few different colors!
