Just wanted to offer a quick reminder to all of you gardeners and flower-lovers out there, especially now as summer is winding down and fall is coming!
It’s so tempting sometimes to just “clean up” all of the plants that seem to be spent, and get ready for new cool-season seedlings, but it’s really important to make sure you know which ones need pruning and which ones you need to wait on.
If your annuals are looking tired and kinda dead-looking, you may indeed consider pulling them out to make room. Just make sure that there are no blooms hiding under the leaves that you would be discarding.
Perennials are a bit hardier than annuals, most of the time, and some varieties actually need to be pruned ONLY after the first frost, or at least later on in the fall to maximize the blooms for next year.
SO…
Check your plants, and make sure you know when they need to be trimmed back, and hopefully next year they will come out better than ever!
