Peas are an early-spring crop, one of the first to plant and the first to harvest!

Try planting seeds 1 inch apart in rows, knowing that you’ll have to thin them out as the grow and expand. Early spring peas thrive in sandy, loamy soil, so raised beds are a great idea if you can use them.

Choose a sunny spot that is guarded from high winds, and keep an eye on the moisture content of the soil. Peas should not be bogged-down with water, but they need sufficient moisture when the seeds begin to germinate and the pods begin to swell out.
