camalia 11-07-14Camellias are an essential staple in the southern regions of the United States, being prized for their abundance of succulent flowers and velvety petals that come in a vast array of colors and shapes.

We love to use camellias in our landscape designs here at Ninja Lawns, both for their beautiful blooms and for their glossy evergreen leaves that look gorgeous all year long. And, while other plants may be nibbled by deer that venture close to home, camellias are deer-resistant and are low-maintenance in that regard.

Camellias are best suited to areas with light shade, and indirect sunlight. Plant in spring or fall, depending on your location — for areas prone to colder winters, plant in spring to establish strong root systems before a hard freeze.

Use as foundation plants in landscaping designs, or cultivate in individual containers.
