The team at Ninja Lawns knows how important your furry companions are, and being animal lovers ourselves, we wanted to give you a simple “head’s up” on some of the growing things that you may want to look out for when it comes to your dogs and puppies.
Members of the lily family, specifically varieties such as peace lily, calla lily, amaryllis, and lily of the valley are all deemed as potentially toxic to dogs, with side effects such as gastrointestinal issues, depression, anorexia and tremors.
Wild (or store-bought) grapes, muscadines, or mushrooms are favorites for dogs to munch on when they are out-and-about, but do your best to help them avoid eating things like this, since they are known to cause vomiting, diarrhea, or in severe cases, kidney failure.
Sago palm trees are really nice-looking in landscaping, but just one seed pod can make a dog very very sick. The seed pods contain a toxin called cycasin, which does not play well with a dog when ingested.
And, of course, if you live in the south, especially Georgia, you will see azaleas EVERYWHERE, and while they are gorgeous, they also pose a potential risk to dogs when ingested.
While there’s virtually no way to keep your four-legged friends away from everything that may harm them, we just want to help you to identify the possible threats that are around you , and be prepared to help your dog stay as healthy as possible. 🙂
