square blog templateWe love incorporating juniper into our landscape designs, and so do many of our clients and friends! Here are a few reasons why:

#1 – Juniper is not only great for a spreading, carpet effect, but it also is one of our top choices for erosion control.  When spring and summer showers threaten to loosen the soil on sloping or hilly landscaping, juniper’s root systems work hard to keep everything underground intact for you, making deep gouges and sliding soil a thing of the past.

#2 – Juniper’s root systems also make it easy for transplanting or removal, if you decide you don’t want it anymore.  Many groundcovers will create multiple root balls as they spread, making them a pain to pull out.  Juniper plants each have one main root mass, with it’s branches spreading out to create the carpet effect that you see.

#3 – It’s just so pretty!  And with so many cultivars to choose from, you are able to customize your ideas based on what you need.  Try “Green Sargent” for light green foliage, and “Nana” or “Blue Pacific” for blueish-green foliage.

#4 – Many, if not all,  juniper varieties are both heat and drought tolerant, as well as evergreen, so no matter the season or the extreme temps, and healthy juniper plant will look great year round.
