4-29-15 winter jasminHorticulturists have mixed views on Asiatic Jasmine.  Is it invasive? Is it a beautiful groundcover when controlled? The answer is yes to both.

While this member of the Jasmine family is known for being a hardy, low-lying ground cover, it is also aggressive and fast growing, causing it to quickly spiral out of control when not tended to.

The danger of this jasmine is that it smothers and chokes out nearby native plants that are trying to grow.

If you choose to plant Asiatic Jasmine as a groundcover, be aware that it does take quite a bit of effort to keep it under control.  This plant is not for the hands-free, low-maintenance gardener.
