Moisture is key in the winter months here in the South, and all over the country. And surprisingly enough, moist soil actually retains more heat than dry soil does. Go figure!
When living in a warmer climate, it’s important to maintain your plant’s moisture levels to ensure that the plant is able to continue it’s inner functions, even in the dormant stage.
Happily for most of us, in our southern climate, rain oftentimes accompanies winter, rather than snow, so usually lack of water is not an issue.
All that being said, sufficient watering, combined with mulching, will provide adequate insulation for your plants and help them maintain their healthy status.
