Winter is a great time to prepare your vegetable gardens for spring!

When you have some free time, try to get a feel for your new spring vegetable garden by asking these sorts of questions –

  • How did my garden fare last year?
  • Did I actually use the produce that it made?
  • Did I choose the right place for it?
  • Was the soil the right acidity?
  • What do I want for next year’s crop?

Adding compost or manure to the soil during the cold months allows missing nutrients and minerals to be replenished and absorbed ahead of time, readying your garden space to receive new seeds and roots in the spring.

And while you’re at it, decide whether or not to reuse your previous beds.  You may be ready to move on to a better location, and planning ahead will help you achieve your goals for next season.
